Introduction to the MA-860 System
MA-860 Installation and Configuration Guide 3
1.2 System Architecture
The MA-860 system consists of the following main
functional
modules:
MA-860 Controller module – provides the
802.11a and 802.11b/g interfaces
to the
corresponding 802.11 AP ports and implements the (local and remote)
monitoring and
control
functionality.
WiFi Coverage Expansion (WCE) units – antenna control unit installed adjacent to
the antennas. Each WCE supports two antennas. It enables remote management of
antennas.
SCU – external module that enables converging MA1000 mobile services with MA-860
data services for distribution over the same antenna (and WCE) infrastructure.
Note: The MA-860 system is fully functional without the SCU unit and can be used in this way in
installations that do not require special combining/splitting on the Mobile services.
Multi-service Antennas – MobileAccess or any compatible multi-service antennas.
The following figure shows the MA-860 services converged with MA2000 services. Note that
SCUs are
not
required for MA2000 systems – only for MA1000. Detailed information on the
various installations is given in section
1.4.
