The benefit to having 65°C rating is two-fold:
1. 55°C rated fixtures cannot be used on a job where ambient temperature reaches 65°C
without potential failures and down time.
2. When a 65°C rated fixture is used within a 55°C environment, the life expectancies
of the electrical components double.

Cooper Lighting’s Lumark Steeler series of open high-bays are rated for 65°C (149°F) ambient environments
through 400W, while most competitors only meet U.L. requirements for 55°C (131°F).
Since optimal fixture life depends upon the ambient environment and rated temperature of the internal
components, every degree has considerable performance implications. With the Steeler’s superior housing
construction, components run cooler than the competitive products. Cooler is better because the component
life doubles for every 10°C cooler the system operates.
