PTACs create heat using a heat pump and/or heat
strip (electric heat).
Heat Pump
The heat pump reverses the cooling cycle on the air
conditioner. The refrigerant is used to heat the coils
and, after the air passes over the hot coils, the
heated air is pushed back into the room. This type of
system is ideal for warmer climates.
Heat Strip
Heat Strip Units have a heating element near the
vents that is heated using electricity. The air is
heated when it passes over the element.
C&H PTAC units with a heat pump also include a back
up heat strip for cooler winter temperatures.
