B Notes About AF Area Mode
• When digital zoom is in effect, focus will be on the center of the screen regardless of the AF area
mode setting.
• Autofocus may not perform as expected (A29).
• There are functions with which this setting cannot be enabled. See “Functions That Cannot Be
Applied Simultaneously” (A62) for more information.

Select one of 99 focus areas in the
monitor. This option is suited to
situations in which the intended
subject is relatively still and not
positioned at the center of the frame.
Press the multi selector H, I, J, or
K to move the focus area to the
position where you want to focus,
and then shoot.
• Before making any of the settings
below, press the k button to
cancel the focus-area selection.
-Flash mode
- Macro mode, self-timer, or exposure compensation
When the settings are complete, press the k button again to
reactivate the focus-area selection.
y Center
The camera focuses on the subject at
the center of the frame. The center
focus area is always displayed.
s Subject tracking
Use this function to take pictures of
moving subjects. Register the subject
on which the camera will focus. The
focus area will automatically move to
track the subject. See “Using Subject
Tracking” (E32) for more
information.
