Thepurposeofthisdocumentistoprovideanexplanationoftheinstallation,configuration,
anduseofConnectPro.
ConnectPro(knowninearlierversionsasTermProxy)isdesignedtoextendthelifeofsessions
betweenTerminalEmulationClientsandhosts.Undernormaloperatingcircumstances,a
devicemightgoidle,enterpower-savingmode,ormoveoutofRFrangeandprematurely
terminatethesessionbetweentheClientandthehost.ConnectProserversoftwaremaintains
thesessionwiththehost,evenifthedevicegoestosleeportheconnectionismomentarily
lost.ThisenablestheClienttoseamlesslyresumethesessionwithoutlossofproductivity.

Functional Overview of ConnectPro
ConnectProactsasanintermediaryorproxyserverbetweenaClientandahost,maintaining
anestablishedsessionwiththehosteventhoughtheClientmightgoidleorotherwise
terminatethesession.Theprocessoccursinthefollowingmanner:
1 TheClientestablishesasessionwiththeproxyserver.ThisiscalledtheClient-proxy
connection.
2 TheproxyserverestablishesasessionwiththehostonbehalfoftheClientandkeepstrack
ofthesessioninformation.Thisiscalledtheproxy-hostconnection.
3 Theproxyservermaintainstheproxy-hostconnection,eveniftheClient-proxyconnection
goesidleordead.(Youcanconfigurethelengthoftimethattheproxyservermaintains
theproxy-hostconnectionaftertheClient-proxyconnectionhasbeenterminated.)
4 WhenaClientre-connectsafterhavingbeenidleorhavingotherwiseterminatedthe
session,theproxyserversendstheClientthesessioninformationandtheClientcontinues
thesession.Block-modeemulations,suchas5250and3270,shoulduseareconnectstring.
Character-modeemulations,suchasVT100andVT220,donotrequireareconnectstring.
