Wireless Transmission of Video Signals
T
here are a number of choices to transmit video signals
through free space thus avoiding the need to run cables from
camera to monitor
. The most popular options are outlined
below:-
Shor
t Path Radio Links.
- Uses 1.394 and 2.4 GHz License Exempt Radio Bands.
- 2.4GHz band has 4 channels available, 1.394GHz has
single band.
- Typical Range 50-100m in free space, much reduced
through obstacles.
- Range can be extended with suitable antennas but at
increased cost.
- Note that because the antennas are omni-directional
then it is relatively simple to eavesdrop other peoples
video pictures. Also it is fairly straight forward to jam
the signals.
- Interference may be a problem, either from other
equipment that also uses the 2.4GHz band such as

- However this equipment is ideal for rapid deployment
systems and for temporary covert surveillance.
Shor

-
Clear Line-of-Sight required between transmitter and
receiver.
- Reasonable immunity to fog and snow.

an be extended to up to 3Km with high-gain antennae.
- Video-Only links for static cameras.
- Video + Reverse Data links available for telemetry
control of functional cameras.
- Nominal license fee payable
Note that clear line of sight is required between the
transmitting and receiving antenna. It is advisable to mount
the an

ennae as high as po

at
tenuation from obstacles on the ground. Pay attention to
trees that may grow to become obstacles in the future.
