Start‐Up
Everyunitisfactorysettodeliverchilledwaterinaccordancewiththestandardoperating
specificationsforthatparticularchiller.Duetovariablesinvolvedwithdifferentapplications
anddifferentinstallations,minoradjustmentsmayberequiredduringtheinitialstart‐upto
ensureproperoperation.Thefollowingstartupprocedureshouldbe followed insequence.If
troubleisencounteredduringstart‐up,thefaultcanusuallybetracedtooneofthecontrolor
safetydevices.Thisoutlinecanbeusedasachecklistfortheinitialstart‐upandforsubsequent
start‐upsifthechilleristakenoutofserviceforaprolongedperiodoftime.
1. Assurethemainpowersourceisconnectedproperly,thatitmatchesthevoltageshownon
thenameplateoftheunit,andthatitiswithinthevoltageutilizationrangegiveninthe
ElectricalPowerSectionofthismanual.Electricalphasesequencemustbecheckedat
installationandpriortostart‐up.Operationofthecompressorwithincorrectelectrical
phasesequencingwillresultinmechanicaldamagetothecompressors.Thephasingmust
becheckedwithaphasesequencemeterpriortoapplyingpower.Thepropersequence
shouldread“ABC”onthemeter.Ifthemeterreads“CBA”,openthemainpowerdisconnect
andswitchtwolineleadsonthelinepowerterminalblocks(ortheunitmounted
disconnect).Allcomponentsrequiringelectricpowerarewiredin‐phaseatthefactory.Do
notinterchangeanyloadleadsthatarefromtheunitcontactorsorthemotorterminals.
Onceproperpowerconnectionandgroundinghavebeenconfirmed,turnthemainpower
on.
WARNING:ItisimperativethatL1‐L2‐L3areconnectedintheA‐B‐Cphasesequencetoprevent
equipmentdamageduetoreverserotation.
Note:Themainpowermustbeonfor24hourspriortostartingthecompressortoallowthecrankcase
heatertosufficientlyvaporizeany
liquidrefrigerantthatmaybepresentinthecompressor.
2. Checktomakesurethatallprocesschilledwaterpipingconnectionsaresecure.Openthe
cabinetandfillthechilledwaterreservoirwiththeproperwaterorwater/glycolsolution.
Useglycolwithacorrosioninhibitoronly.SeeTable3(onthenextpage)forrecommended
glycolsolutions.25%glycol
isrecommendedevenifrunningattemperatureshigherthan
25°Ftohelpprotecttheevaporatorfrompotentialfreezing.
3. (EP2WModelsOnly)Checkthecondenserwaterlinestomakesureallconnectionsare
secure.Makesuresufficientcondenserwaterflowandpressureareavailable,the
condenserwatersupplyisturnedon,
andallshut‐offvalvesareopened
4. (EP2RModelsOnly)Checktherefrigerantlinestomakesureallconnectionsaresecureand
thataproperevacuationofthechiller,thefieldpiping,andtheremotecondenserhas
occured.
