affected.Inordertoreducemaintenancecostsandchillerdowntime,awatertreatment
programishighlyrecommendedforthecondensercoolingwater.Ifcondenserpluggingoccurs,
contactourCustomerServiceDepartmentforassistanceintheproperprocedurefor
cleaning
outthecondenser.
Caution:Theuseofuntreatedorimproperlytreatedwaterinachillercanresultinscaling,erosion,
algae,orslimebuildup.Thiscanleadtopoorsystemperformanceorprematurefailure.
Thestandardcoolingcapacityassumes85°F(29°C)condensercoolingwatersupply.Under
normaloperatingconditions,therewillbeapproximately10°F(6°C)risethroughthecondenser
resultingin95°F(35°C)exitingwatertemperaturefromthecondenser.Toensureproperwater
flowthroughthecondenser,thecondenserwaterpumpmustbeabletosupplythepressure
dropgiven(seeFigure1orFigure2onthefollowingpages)whenprovidingtherequired
condenserwaterflowasshowninTable1.Whilethedesignpressurelossismuchlowerthan
25PSI(1.75Kg/cm
2
),werecommendthepumpingsystembesizedforthislosstoensurethere
willbesufficientsupplypressuretothecondensers.Topreventdamagetothecondenseror
regulatingvalve,thecondenserwaterpressureshouldnotexceed150PSIG(10.5Kg/cm
2
).The
condenserwaterregulatingvalvecontrolsthecondenserwaterflow.Thechillerloadingand
condenserwaterinlettemperaturedeterminetheactualflow.Thecondenserwatersupply
temperaturerangeisfrom70°F(21°C)to90°F(32°C).Supplytemperaturesoutsidethisrange
arenotrecommendedandmayleadtoimproperchilleroperation.
Thewaterregulating
valvewillmodulatethe
flowrateofcondenser
waterthroughthe
condenserinorderto
maintainthedischarge
pressuresetpoint.Ifthe
dischargepressureis
abovethesetpoint,the
waterregulatingvalve
willopentoincrease
thewaterflowattemptingtoprovidemorecooling.Thecondenserwater
flowcanexceed
nominalflowratesduringtheseconditionsandreducetheavailablewaterflowthroughother
processesifsharingthesamepump.
Warning:Ifthecondenserwaterpumpisfeedingothersourcesinadditiontothechiller,itishighly
recommendedtoinstallanappropriatebalancevalveinlinewiththechillerinordertolimitthe
maximumflowthroughthechiller.
