1.3.5 Data Interfaces
As standard, the CDM-840 offers the following data interfaces:
• (1) 10/100/1000 BaseT Gigabit Ethernet Interface
• (1) 10/100 BaseT Fast Ethernet Interface for management purposes (Web and SNMP)
• (1) EIA-232 interface for serial remote control
1.3.6 Verification
The CDM-840 includes a transmit and receive Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) for rapid verification
of the correct function of the unit. When normal operation is again selected, all of the previous
values are restored.
1.3.7 Flash Upgrading Firmware
The internal firmware is both powerful and flexible, permitting storage and retrieval of up to 10
different configurations. The unit uses ‘flash memory’ technology internally, and new firmware
can be uploaded to the unit from an external PC. This simplifies software upgrading, and updates
are deliverable over satellite, via the Internet (from Comtech EF Data’s Web server), e-mail, or
on CD. The upgrade can be performed without opening the unit, by simply connecting the
CDM-840 to the Ethernet port of a computer. See Chapter 4. FLASH UPGRADING for further
information.
