1.2 CDD-880 Functional Description
TheCDD‐880’sreceivesVersaFECinteroperablewithComtechEFData’sCDM‐840/ ODM‐840/
ODMR‐840RemoteRoutersandwiththeComtechEFDataCDM ‐625AdvancedSatelliteModem
(when equipped with its optional IP Packet Processor). The unit features six plug‐incard slots,
each of which supports a VersaFEC/Streamline du
al demodulator card. This allows for six
deployedconfigurations:2,4,6,8,10and12demods.
TheunitsupportsreceptionandtransmissionofIPdataoversatellitelinksviatwofundamentally
differenttypesofinte rfac e –IFanddata:
• TheIFinterfaceprovidesuplinkconnectivitywiththes
atellite.
• The data interface is a bidirectional path that connects the customer’s equipment
(assumedtobetheDataTerminalEquipment,orDTE)totheunit(assumedtobetheData
CommunicationsEquipmen t ,orDCE).Allterrestrialdataisconnectedusingtheavailable

terface.
Overall, the receive path allows IP packets to be Streamline decapsulated, K4 decompressedif
required, and then sent to the processor. IP packets are sent out the appropriate Ethernet
interface.OptimizedE1packetsarereceivedwithIP/UDPheadersandroutedtotheappropriate
CXU‐810RANOptimizeronthehu
bnetwork.
Note that, as IP/UDP packets, the CDD‐880 is completely agnostic/ignorant to the RAN
Optimizationfeature,whichofferssignificantnetworkfeaturesimplicityadvantages.
