The Advanced VSAT Series product group can also be optionally managed by the Vipersat

change.

1.2 CDD-880 Functional Description
TheCDD‐880’sreceivesVersaFECinteroperablewithComtechEFData’sCDM‐840/ ODM‐840/
ODMR‐840RemoteRoutersandwiththeComtechEFDataCDM ‐625AdvancedSatelliteModem
(when equipped with its optional IP Packet Processor). The unit features six plug‐incard slots,
each of which supports a VersaFEC/Streamline du
al demodulator card. This allows for six
deployedconfigurations:2,4,6,8,10and12demods.

TheunitsupportsreceptionandtransmissionofIPdataoversatellitelinksviatwofundamentally
differenttypesofinte rfac e –IFanddata:

• TheIFinterfaceprovidesuplinkconnectivitywiththes
atellite.

• The data interface is a bidirectional path that connects the customer’s equipment
(assumedtobetheDataTerminalEquipment,orDTE)totheunit(assumedtobetheData
CommunicationsEquipmen t ,orDCE).Allterrestrialdataisconnectedusingtheavailable
10/100/1000GigabitEthernetin
terface.

Overall, the receive path allows IP packets to be Streamline decapsulated, K4 decompressedif
required, and then sent to the processor. IP packets are sent out the appropriate Ethernet
interface.OptimizedE1packetsarereceivedwithIP/UDPheadersandroutedtotheappropriate
CXU‐810RANOptimizeronthehu
bnetwork.

Note that,  as IP/UDP packets, the CDD‐880 is completely agnostic/ignorant to the RAN
Optimizationfeature,whichofferssignificantnetworkfeaturesimplicityadvantages.


