1.2 CDD-880 Functional Description
TheCDD880’sreceivesVersaFECinteroperablewithComtechEFData’sCDM840/ ODM840/
ODMR840RemoteRoutersandwiththeComtechEFDataCDM 625AdvancedSatelliteModem
(when equipped with its optional IP Packet Processor). The unit features six plugincard slots,
each of which supports a VersaFEC/Streamline du
al demodulator card. This allows for six
deployedconfigurations:2,4,6,8,10and12demods.
TheunitsupportsreceptionandtransmissionofIPdataoversatellitelinksviatwofundamentally

The data interface is a bidirectional path that connects the customer’s equipment
(assumedtobetheDataTerminalEquipment,orDTE)totheunit(assumedtobetheData
CommunicationsEquipmen t ,orDCE).Allterrestrialdataisconnectedusingtheavailable
10/100/1000GigabitEthernetin
terface.
Overall, the receive path allows IP packets to be Streamline decapsulated, K4 decompressedif
required, and then sent to the processor. IP packets are sent out the appropriate Ethernet
interface.OptimizedE1packetsarereceivedwithIP/UDPheadersandroutedtotheappropriate
CXU810RANOptimizeronthehu
bnetwork.
Note that, as IP/UDP packets, the CDD880 is completely agnostic/ignorant to the RAN
Optimizationfeature,whichofferssignificantnetworkfeaturesimplicityadvantages.
