Holding and releasing a print job (qhld command)
This section discusses how to hold a print job after it has been sent to the print queue. You
can later release the print job for printing with these same commands.
Note: You cannot hold and release remote print jobs.
Prerequisite
The printer must be physically attached to your system.
You must be the print job owner. See Holding and releasing print jobs on page 2-32 for
information about holding and releasing print jobs of other users.
Web–based System Manager
To hold or release a print job using Web–based System Manager, enter wsm, and then
select Printers.
In the Printer Queues window, select the print job, and then use the menus to put it on hold
or to release a held job for printing.
qhld command
Use the qhld command to put a print job on hold after you have sent it. You can either put a
particular print job on hold, or you can hold all the print jobs on a specified print queue. To
determine the print job number, enter the qchk command. For more information, see qchk
command on page 1-15.
The basic format of the qhld command is:
qhld [ –r ] {[ –#JobNumber ] [ –PQueue ] [ –uUser ]}

The following list contains examples of how to use the qhld command:
• To hold job number 452 on whichever print queue the job is on, enter:
qhld –#452
• To hold all jobs queued on print queue hp2, enter:
qhld –Php2
• To release job number 452 on whichever print queue the job is on, enter:
qhld –#452 –r
• To release all jobs queued on print queue hp2, enter:
qhld –Php2 –r
smit command
To hold or release a print job using SMIT, enter:
smit qhld
