5.2 Graphical Terminals (X11 manager) and X Terminals (X11 manager,
or NCD based)
• Even when the Euro character is engraved on the keyboard, the “AIX 4.3.2 Updates”
CD-ROM must be installed to support the Euro character.
• A substitution of key (xmodmap) is necessary to key in the Euro character.

7. My Peripheral Is Not Upgradable. What to Do?
Use a work–around, as described in the “Work-arounds” section.
8. Restrictions
8.1 Codification
• Estrella 200 and 300 do not support the UTF-8 codification.
• The ISO8859–15 Euro codification is not supported for X terminals.
• The Alt–Gr E (4, 5, u) combination key is not allowed on Graphical or X terminals. (use
work-arounds)
8.2 Products that do not support Euro character
• Bull printers
• HTML
• SNA20 with X Terminals
• Affinity 16 bits
• FR_FR language does not operate with aixterm
• Cobol does not provide NLS UTF–8 codification.
8.3 C Libraries
• isalpha and isprint give FALSE result with any of the Euro character codification.
9. Work-arounds
9.1 ASCII Terminals
9.1.1 Send “hex a4” to the system
Use function keys F6 to F10 as the Euro character. The character displayed on the screen
will be the ”International Currency ¤”
Example:
To use the F6 key for Euro character proceed as follows:
Create the file /usr/lib/nls/termmap/f.in with the line:
\x1b\x5b\x31\x37\x7e:\xa4
Then enter the command:
