4-4
Bull S.A.May 25th, 1999
Remarks:
It is not necessary for AIX to manage the Euro character when the firmware of terminals
or printers do it at their level: AIX will simply stock the binary value hex a4 as any binary
value.
On the contrary, AIX has to provide the fonts of the Euro character for graphic consoles.
Names of files can include the Euro symbol.
4. Compilers and Euro
Compilers do support the Euro character.
4.1 Cobol
Cobol MicroFocus follows the X/OPEN standard, and thus allows localization and in
particular the management of the monetary symbol in editions.
To compile the Euro character, use one of the following methods:
Use the internationalization function (locale).
Or use the binary value of the Euro character: hex 282ac, 80, or a4.
Remarks:
You can compile with the NLS environment division.
For examples of conversions of currencies inside a program, refer to the “Work-arounds”
section.
4.2 C Compiler
To compile the Euro character, use one of the following methods:
Use the internationalization function (locale). The locale can be modified inside a
program, thus allowing conversions of currencies.
Or use the binary value of the Euro character: hex 282ac, 80, or a4.
4.3 FORTRAN
To compile the Euro character use its binary value: hex 282ac, 80, or a4.
5. Terminals and Euro
