3-3
Bull S.A. May 25th, 1999
Estrella series 200 and 300 only:
It is recommended to enable the option ”Automatically REBOOT system after a
crash”. Proceed as follows:
# smit system
Select ”Change/Show Characteristics of the Operating System
Set the ”Automatically REBOOT system after a crash” option to TRUE.
3. Localization
You can choose the language of the messages.
When installing a software product using smit install_latest the messages
associated to this product are installed according to the MESSAGES environment variable
(in /var/adm/ras/bosinst.data file).
For example, installing AIX Common Desktop Environment (CDE) fileset X11.Dt.rte
will install X11.msg.en_US.Dt.rte if MESSAGES=en_US
Suppose that the messages corresponding to the products already installed are in
American (en_US), and you want those messages to be in French (fr_FR); proceed as
follows:
# smit mlang
Select: Additional Language Environment, and enter:
CULTURAL convention to install
fr_FR
LANGUAGE translation to install
fr_FR
INPUT device/directory for software
/dev/cd0
This will install message filesets for all already installed products.
Be careful: that means that both messages in American and in French can be displayed
according to the
LANG
variable of each user: if you do not change the
LANG
variable,
messages will continue to be displayed in American.
Suppose you want messages in a particular language for some, not all, products
(for
example X11.Dt in French), proceed as follows:
# smit mlang
Select: Change/Show Applications for a Language
Then select: Add Language for Applications already Installed, and enter:
LANGUAGE translation to install
fr_FR
INPUT device/directory for software
/dev/cd0
Installed Application
X11.Dt.rte
4. TFTP Method for Downloading Your X Manager File
TFTP method for downloading your X Manager file (Xncdhmx, Xncdxpl...) is not available
from AIX 4.3.1 with Xterminal Manager 5.0.129.
A workaround is to:
1. Stop inetd: stopsrc –s inetd
2. Kill any tftpd processes which may be running
3. Update tftpd configuration in /etc/inetd.conf:
replace:
tftp dgram udp wait nobody /usr/sbin/tftpd tftpd –n
