14. xr_host –
(XRemote Host)
The lpp xr_host contains the Xremote utility from NCD. Xremote allows the X11 protocol to
be used efficiently over a serial link. Thus a PC running PC Xware can be used as a
Graphic Console for an Escala machine without having to purchase a dedicated graphic
adapter and screen.
Xremote is an NCD proprietary protocol supported by NCD. Please refer to your usual NCD
support contact if you have any problem using this product. Updates and more information
are available via the NCD FTP server, at
ftp://ftp.ncd.com/
PC Xware must be ordered separately.
14.1 Installation
xr_host is installed from the Bull Enhancement CD-ROM. X11.apps and X11.motif filesets
are requested.
After installation, type xterm. If not found, enter:
rm –r /usr/bin/X11
ln –s /usr/lpp/X11/bin /usr/bin/X11
The path of the command xinitremote is /usr/lpp/X11/bin/ncd/bin
For installation with an X Terminal manager refer to
Installing the X Terminals
on page 3-4.
14.2 Restrictions and Limitations
If you are logged under AIX via the serial line of your PC using PC–Xware, to start a
graphic console, enter:
cd /usr/lpp/X11/bin/ncd/bin
PATH=$PATH:.
xinitremote
Between 2 xinitremote, you must exit and login again.
