(WatchWare)
WatchWare Server Monitor is a user–friendly supervision application that gives you a
comprehensive insight of your system. Refer to the
WatchWare Server Monitor User’s
Guide
(reference 86 A2 62GX) for more information.
Restrictions and Limitations
• In WatchWare Management, if you redirect the System Console to get console
messages, you may have problems at boot or shutdown phase, and also in using a LFT
(Low Function Terminal). Read the Help page.
Boot phase: the login prompt may be interlaced with the boot messages that are
displayed late after the boot. Type the <Enter> or <Return> key several times to clear
the display.
Shutdown phase: the Halt Completed message does not appear when the machine
is stopped.
• The Local file System page may be impossible to build if the nobody user is not able to
launch the df command without an error message.
• In the System Load page, the number of processes may not appear if the w –u
command returns an error (because the date was corrupted).
• In the System Status page, the given number of Processors (Nx PowerPC...) is the
number of available processors, not the number of processor physically present on the
machine.
• In the System Status page, the type of the processors is displayed as:
Nx PowerPC XXX.
Sometimes, the XXX info (e.g. 604, 604e, ...) is not present.
• In the System Description page, the Number of Disks information is the number of
disks physically present on the machine, while the Total Disk Capacity is the total
size of all available disks.
This size is computed by dividing the total number of bytes by 1024*1024*1024: it is the
real size.
• The /var file system must have a sufficient size. 10 MB of free space is a minimum.
• If you have a problem with CDE (
cde does not start)
, run it in fail–safe mode.
• If /tmp is full, WatchWare cannot be run.
• If the Server Monitor Status is yellow and the Alarms Service is inoperative, you can use
the WatchWare Management page in order to restart RSF.
• If the following message is displayed when installing WatchWare or when restarting RSF
(in the case of the Server Monitor Status is yellow and the Alarms Service is inoperative):
Fatal: Could not access source’s action: over
rsfd: Fatal: A fatal error was detected
chrsf: Warning: Could not start daemon: rsfd
Type the following commands under root autority:
# addent –n over –t s null
# chrsf –s
• If, when asking for a WatchWare page, you get a message like:
Can’t fork: too many processes
check that the number of max processes for the user nobody is sufficient.
When a Netscape Proxy or Enterprise Server is running, 40 is not enough.
