Commissioning & Operation2-2 Commissioning
Before connecting any hydraulic joint, always
inspect hoses for damage and any dirt or
contaminants. Clean as necessary with com-
pressed air or an approved cleaning solvent
in combination with a lint-free cloth.
Attached to each hydraulic outlet is a brass
(or plastic) dust cap. Whenever a hose is dis-
connected, dust caps should always be reat-
tached to prevent contaminants from entering
the hydraulic system.
Wing type hydraulic disconnects should al-
ways be fully made up to the connection line
on the joint. Prior to pressurizing the hydraulic
system, all hydraulic connections should be
inspected to ensure a secure connection has
been established.
Before attempting to break out hydraulic con-
nections, assure that the tong has be depres-
surized and is fully disconnected from any hy-
draulic power sources. Hydraulic return lines
should always be made up rst and broken
out last in order to insure that pressure is not
trapped in the valve package.
