Windows Configuration 5-22
5.7.2 Assigning the IP Address with ARP
Prior to running the ARP command line utility, obtain an EcoLAN 3000E Network
Status Page from your printer. The status page may be printed on demand by pressing
the Status key on the front panel of the printer. Check the network status page to be
sure that TCP/IP is enabled, and that an IP address has not already been assigned.
Information from the status page will be needed during the ARP setup procedure.
If the 3000E already has an IP address, the ARP utility will not work. The new IP
address should be assigned with the printer front panel (Chapter 8) or by connecting to
the existing IP address with a web browser (Chapter 3) or with Telnet (Chapter 8) or, if
running IPX, by configuring with MAP (Chapter 3).
The EcoLAN 3000E must be on the same network segment as the workstation that
you are using to configure it. The TCP/IP stack must be installed and operating on the
workstation.
1. From Windows, open an MS/DOS window.
2. At the DOS prompt enter:
ping [any valid IP address on your network - not the 3000E],
for example: ping 201.16.133.5
3. Next enter: arp -s [IP address of 3000E] [Hardware Address of 3000E],
for example: arp -s 201.16.133.19 00-40-af-36-85-40
Note that Windows uses dashes separating the hardware address rather than the
conventional colons.
4. Next enter: ping [IP address of 3000E],
for example: ping 201.16.133.19
The 3000E will not respond to this ping; Request Timed Out will be displayed, but
it will accept the address and reset.
5. Wait 1 or 2 minutes and then press the Status key to print an EcoLAN 3000E Net-
work Status page. The new IP address will be listed in the TCP/IP Network Infor-
mation section on the status page. If the status page does not display the new IP
address, double check the Hardware Address entry in your arp -s command.
Note: The ARP procedure only enters the IP address. For networks where subnets are
used, the Subnet mask must also be configured. This may be done using the
printer front panel, a web browser, Telnet, or MAP.
