Windows Configuration 5-19
Accessing a Shared Printer from Windows NT 4.0
This section covers the steps for a Windows NT 4.0 machine to connect to a shared
printer.
1. Click on the Windows Start button, select Settings, and Printers.
2. Double click on the Add Printer icon.
3. Select Network Printer Server rather than My Computer and click on Next.
4. Choose the shared printer from the Shared Printers list and continue with the
installation. (You will be prompted to install the matching printer driver if the
driver is not available from the Windows machine which is hosting the printer).
5.7 EcoLAN 3000E TCP/IP Configuration from Windows
In addition to the Windows TCP/IP configuration described in the LPR Printing and
Peer to Peer Printing sections earlier in this chapter, the EcoLAN 3000E must be
given IP address and routing information to be used with TCP/IP. The IP address
information may be setup by several methods, which are listed below. The best
method for you depends upon your existing network configuration as well as your
own experience and preferences.
1) With the Printer Front Panel. If you have access to the printer, TCP/IP and other
parameters may be set using the printer front panel. See Section 8.1
8.1 Front Panel Setup
2) With Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). If your network is using a
DHCP server to assign IP addresses, this will most likely be the preferred method for
assigning an IP address to the 3000E. Refer to the DHCP section for more
information.
8.2 DHCP
3) With the Management Access Program (MAP). If the Windows workstation has the
IPX protocol running, then using MAP is a good choice for assigning the 3000E IP
address. Follow the MAP instructions in Chapter 3.
3.1 MAP
4) With the Bootp Lite utility. If the Windows workstation has the IP protocol running,
then Bootp Lite may be used for assigning the 3000E IP address. Bootp Lite
instructions are in the following section.
5) With the command line utility ARP. If the Windows workstation has the IP protocol
running, then ARP utility may be used for assigning the 3000E IP address. ARP
instructions are in section 5.7.2.
