10. The Windows LPR printer should now be displayed in the "Available ports" list-
ing. For example, C:\SPOOL\PRINTER_NAME. Select the LPR printer and
complete the printer wizard installation.
5.4.4 Windows 95/98 Shared Access Printing
5.1.1 Windows Shared Access Printing Overview
Setting a Printer as Shared in Windows 95/98
This section covers the steps for a Windows 95/98 machine to set a printer as shared
so that other Windows users may access it.
1. Click on the Windows Start button, select Settings, and Control Panel.
2. Double click on Network.
3. On the Configuration tab, click on the File and Print Sharing... button.
4. Place a check in the box next to, I want to be able to allow others to print to my
printer(s) and click OK.
5. Click OK to close the Network window and insert the Windows 95/98 disk or CD
as prompted. Windows will prompt to restart your system. Printer sharing will not
be active until the system is restarted.
6. After restarting, click on the Windows Start button, select Settings, and Printers.
7. Right click on the icon of the printer you want to share and select Sharing.
8. On the Sharing tab, click on Shared As and enter the Share name and a password
if desired.
Accessing a Shared Printer from Windows 95/98
This section covers the steps for a Windows 95/98 machine to connect to a shared
printer.
1. Click on the Windows Start button, select Settings, and Printers.
2. Right click on the appropriate printer driver and select Properties.
3. On the Details tab, click the Add Port button and browse the network for the
shared printer you wish to access.
