new ISL cable and label pack
computer workstation with access to the switches in the FC 6164
color-coded ISL cabling diagram (located inside the chassis)
FC 6164 worksheet, provided in Appendix A, “FC 6164 Worksheet”
Procedure
Replacing the ISL Cables
CAUTION
The fiber optic cables are fragile and should not be bent to a
radius of less than 0.5 inches.
Note
It is not necessary to power off the switches before disconnecting
ISL cables. If multiple ISL cables are being replaced, the simplest approach
is to replace one cable at a time.
1. Remove the faulty cable from the chassis.
a. Disconnect each end of the faulty cable by firmly grasping the
connector housing (black) and pulling the cable from the GBIC (do
not remove the GBIC).
b. Remove the faulty cable from the cable guide.
2. Connect the new ISL cable to the appropriate ports.
a. Determine the correct switch and port number for each end of the new
cable. You can determine this by one of the following methods:
labels on the faulty cable
table provided in this document (Table 8)
color-coded cable diagram provided in this document
(Figure 24), and also provided inside the chassis
