Hard drive LEDs
When a hard driv
eisconfi gured as a part of an array and attached to a powered-on controller, the
status of the ha
rd drive can be determined from the illumination pattern of its LEDs.

Meaning
On
Off Off The hard drive is being accessed in one of the following ways:
• The hard drive is not configured as part of an array.
• Theharddriveisareplacementandrebuildhasnotyet
started.
• The hard drive is spinning up during POST.
Do not remove the hard drive. Removing a hard drive at this
time could terminate the current operation and cause data loss.
Blinking Blinking Blinking
The hard drive is being accessed in one of the following ways:
• The hard drive is part of a configured array that is being
selected or updated by the ACU or MSA-CLI.
• The hard drive is being upgraded.
• The hard drive has been selected for identification in HP-SIM,
ACU, or MSA-CLI.
Do not remove the hard drive. Removing a hard drive at this
time can cause data loss in non-fault-tolerant configurations.
Off Off Off The hard drive is not being accessed and is not confi gured as
part of an array. If necessary, it is safe to replace the hard drive.
This hard drive is in one of the following states:
• The hard drive is not configured as part of an array.
• The hard drive is configured as an online spare.
