The two positions of the front panel power switch should be considered as ON and STANDBY, rather than ON and OFF. The STANDBY position removes power from most of the electronics and the drives but portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active.

The Compaq Maximum Recommended Ambient Operating Temperature (Tmra) for most server products is 35°C (95°F). Therefore, the temperature in the room where the rack is located should not exceed 35°C (95°F).

Therefore, the front door of the rack must be adequately ventilated to allow ambient room air to enter the cabinet, and the rear door must be adequately ventilated to allow the warm air to escape from the cabinet. Do not block the ventilation apertures.

This means that the supply may be easily replaced by simply unplugging it and plugging in a replacement. Select the procedure to follow depending on whether or not the system has a redundant power supply option installed.
