Security
■ A Setup utility administrator password and a Windows
administrator password have different functions. A Windows
administrator password cannot be used to access the Setup
utility, and a Setup utility administrator password cannot
provide administrator-level access to your computer contents.
■ If you forget the administrator password set in the Setup
utility, you will not be able to access the Setup utility.
The following table lists commonly used Setup utility and
Windows passwords and describes their functions. For additional
information about Windows passwords, such as screen-saver
passwords, select Start > Help and Support.
Setup Utility Passwords Function
Administrator password Protects access to the Setup utility.
Power-on password Protects access to the computer contents
when the computer is turned on, restarted,
or restored from hibernation.
Windows Passwords Function
Administrator password* Protects access to Windows
administrator-level computer contents.
User password* Protects access to a Windows user
account.
Standby password Protects access to computer contents when
the computer is resumed from standby or
restored from hibernation.
