Mains Connection: With a UPS
A UPS must be hard-wired into the building’s mains supply. Order the following:
•
UPS – this has 8 power outlets; includes one UPS-to-server signal cable
•
UPS mains distribution kit (unterminated external mains cable, pack of 8 internal mains cables, shutdown module)
•
Share UPS module if more than one server is to be connected to the UPS
•
Signal cable for each server except the first one (because one cable is included with the UPS)
•
If necessary, mains splitter cables so the UPS can power more than 8 pieces of equipment

SV616061
Power supply splitter cable, 3-way
– Needed if more than 8
mains devices must be powered from the UPS. One end
connects to an output socket on the UPS or to an internal
mains cable; the other ends can then power up to three
pieces of equipment (from the plug to the furthest socket is
1.5 metres).

SV537020
Share UPS Module
– One Share UPS Module is needed per
rack if the UPS will drive more than one server. It allows up to
eight servers to be driven from one UPS.
–
SV537034
PowerChute Signal Cable
– One of these cables is needed
for the second server and one for each subsequent server
that is connected to the Share UPS Module.

The Shutdown Module is used for shutting off the power output of the UPS in an emergency
Please refer also to
PD-SR-0007
for rack UPS information. At present, full support for a UPS is not available
if UnixWare 7 is used.
The 3kVA rack-mount unit (SV537035) powers the equipment in one rack. It must be mounted at the bottom
of the rack.
If a UPS is required, the following products must be ordered:
•
a UPS which is appropriate for the local mains supply
•
an appropriate UPS Mains Distribution Kit
•
a Share UPS Module and one or more PowerChute Signal Cables, if the UPS is to power more than one
server
The number of Processor and/or Disk Nodes that can be driven by one UPS is influenced by the power
consumption of the components which are installed. The hold-up time must be long enough (eg 10 minutes) to
permit the system to shut down completely if the mains supply fails for a lengthy period of time.
