5. Type your new password on the
Enter new Power-On
password
line and press the
Enter
key.
6. Confirm your password by typing it again on the password
verification line and press the
Enter
key.

Caution:
Write your password down in a secure location. If you
forget or lose your password, a Compaq service technician must
reset your Notebook for you to be able to access your files.
7. When
[ ] Enable password
is highlighted, enable the
new password by pressing the
Space Bar
to insert and X
between the brackets.
8. Press the
Enter
key to return to the menu bar options.
9. Using your arrow keys, select the
Exit
option from the menu
bar and press the
Enter
key.
10. Select the
Save Changes and Exit
option and press the
Enter
key.
Your power-on password is now set. Every time you turn on
your Notebook, resume working from hibernation mode, or
access F10 Setup, you must enter this password.
Removing the Password
To remove a power-on password, complete the following steps:
1. Press the Power button to turn on your Notebook.
2. When the Compaq logo displays, press the
F10
key to access
Setup.
3. Enter your current password, and press the
Enter
key.
4. Using your arrow keys, select the
Main
option from
the menu bar and press the
Enter
key.
5. Select
System Password
and press the
Enter
key.
