Problem Possible Cause Action
Power is on, LAN address is
installed on computer;
system hangs.
Incorrect software installed
or software installed
incorrectly.
Contact system administrator or network
coordinator.
Network doesn’t start. Network cable not
connected or is loose.
Connect cable. Also, make sure no more
than one Ethernet cable is connected at
one time.
Adapter card is not seated
securely
Turn the computer off, reset the adapter
card, then turn the computer back on.
Conflict exists with another
device adapter; incorrect
IRQ setting.
Check BIOS setup, Windows 95, or
Windows NT Workstation settings.
Network cable has failed. Contact the system administrator or
network coordinator.
Onboard network controller
disabled.
Run the BIOS Setup utility and set
Integrated Ethernet to “Enabled.”
Onboard network controller
has failed.
Replace the main logic board.
