Problem Possible Cause Action
Computer does not
recognize an internal or
external SCSI hard disk
drive or device.
Hard disk boot sector is missing. Repartition and reformat the hard disk
drive.
Caution:
This procedure erases what is
currently on the hard disk drive.
You might want to try repairing the hard
disk drive using a disk drive repair utility.
Disk drive repair utilities can be
purchased from the local software
supplier.
If you do repartition and reformat the hard
disk drive, proceed as follows for DOS-
based operating systems such as
Windows 95 and Windows NT
Workstation.
Boot from a DOS diskette then enter the
following commands:
c:
cd\dos
fdisk
Follow the instructions on the monitor
screen to create a new hard disk boot
sector.
There might be a boot sector
virus.
Run anti-virus software.
Loose cable connectors. Secure all cable connections.
SCSI adapter has failed. Replace the SCSI adapter.
SCSI ribbon cable has failed. Replace the ribbon cable.
SCSI device has failed. Replace the SCSI device.
