Tips and Troubleshooting 5-7
Shut down the operating system, using a command such as this one, at each
of the primary and secondary console terminals.
Set the lp_count environment variable to 0 and issue an init to disable
partitioning on the system.
You must use an init to reset the system so that all CPUs again run in par-
tition 0. This will cause the environment variable changes made to be cop-
ied later to the CPUs in the secondary partitions when they are later ini-
tialized. Answer “yes” to the prompt asking if you really want to reset par-
titions.
Set the other lp_* environment variables as desired. In this case, the ex-
ample shows redefining the 3-partition system from previous chapters to a
2-partition system. You do not have to reset the CPU and I/O bit masks for
the old partition 2; they will be ignored because lp_count is set to 2.
Initialize the primary partition.
Initialize the secondary partitions.
A message appears noting that CPUs 2 and 3 have not been assigned to any
partition. (We correct this error in the next section.)
