Tips and Troubleshooting 5-7
Shut down the operating system, using a command such as this one, at each
of the primary and secondary console terminals.
Set the lp_count environment variable to 0 and issue an init to disable
partitioning on the system.
You must use an init to reset the system so that all CPUs again run in
partition 0. This will cause the environment variable changes made to be
copied later to the CPUs in the secondary partitions when they are later
initialized. Answer “yes” to the prompt asking if you really want to reset
partitions.
Set the other lp_* environment variables as desired. In this case, the
example shows redefining the 3-partition system from previous chapters to
a 2-partition system. You do not have to reset the CPU and I/O bit masks
for the old partition 2; they will be ignored because lp_count is set to 2.
Initialize the primary partition.
Initialize the secondary partitions.
A message appears noting that CPUs 2 and 3 have not been assigned to any
partition. (We correct this error in the next section.)
