Technical data
If the MSA1000 has installed MSA SAN Switch 2/8s, install the fiber-optic
cables as follows (see Figure 3-4):
• Install an SC-to-LC or LC-to-LC fiber-optic cable between the first Fibre
Channel host bus adapter of each member system and the leftmost MSA
SAN Switch 2/8.
• Install a second SC-to-LC or LC-to-LC fiber-optic cable between the
second Fibre Channel host bus adapter of each member system and the
rightmost MSA SAN Switch 2/8.
4.5 Installing Disk Enclosure Power Cables
Install the power cords for the Model 4314R or 4354R disk enclosures. There
are no power switches on these disk enclosures; the power is applied to the
shelves when you install the power cords.
4.6 Power on the MSA1000 Storage System
Connect the AC power cord for each MSA1000 controller to separate AC
power sources. Turn on power to the controller with the power switch located
at the right-front of the controller.
The controller performs power-on-self-test (POST) diagnostics and an
initialization sequence. It has completed POST and initialization when
MSA1000 Startup Complete is displayed on the liquid crystal display
(LCD) screen on the front of the MSA1000 controller.
4.7 Prepare for CLI Use
Use the command-line interface (CLI) to configure and manage the
MSA1000, and to display its status.
To prepare to use the CLI, follow these steps:
1. Install the custom serial cable, part number 259992-001, between a
terminal or laptop computer and one of the MSA1000 controllers. This
cable has an RJ-45Z (special 10-pin RJ45) connector on one end and a
DB-9 connector on the other end.
2. Set up a terminal, of if you are using a laptop, set up a terminal
emulator, for example HyperTerminal, as follows:
• Speed: 19.2 Kb/sec
• Data bits: 8
• Parity: None
• Stop Bits: 1
