Preparing the MSA1000 for TruCluster
Server Use
The topics in this chapter provide information on how to prepare an
MSA1000 Fibre Channel storage system and associated disks for Tru64
UNIX and TruCluster Server installation.
The base operating system and TruCluster Server software will be installed
on MSA1000 storage.
To install Tru64 UNIX and TruCluster Server on MSA1000 disks, follow
these steps:
1. If the MSA1000 has installed Fibre Channel I/O modules, install the
external Fibre Channel switches (Section 4.1).
If the MSA1000 uses the embedded MSA1000 SAN switch 2/8, instead
of the FC I/O module, ensure that they are installed
2. Install and configure the Fibre Channel host bus adapters (Section 4.2).
3. Install and set up the MSA1000 (Section 4.3).
4. Install fiber-optic cables (Section 4.4).
5. Install storage shelf power cables (Section 4.5).
6. Power on the MSA1000 storage system (Section 4.6).
7. Prepare a laptop computer or terminal for command-line interface use
(Section 4.7).
8. If necessary, upgrade the MSA1000 firmware. The firmware is available
from the MSA1000 home page at:
http://www.hp.com/go/msa1000/
See Section 2.2 for more information.
9. Set up storage for Tru64 UNIX and TruCluster Server installation
(Section 4.8).
10. Set the device unit number and verify valid boot devices (Section 4.9).
11. Install Tru64 UNIX and TruCluster Server software (Section 4.10).
