Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.
TosetanitemontheSecurityChipsubmenu,dothefollowing:
1.Turnoffyourcomputer.Waitforaboutveseconds,andthenturnonthecomputeragain.
2.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1tostarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.
3.SelectSecurity➙SecurityChipbyusingthedirectionalkeys.
4.PressEnter.TheSecurityChipsubmenuopens.
5.Movetoanitemyouwanttosetbyusingthedirectionalkeys.Whentheitemishighlighted,pressEnter.
6.Setotheritemsthatyouwanttoset.
7.PressF10.ASetupConrmationwindowisdisplayed.SelectYestosavethecongurationchanges
andexit.
Tosetthesecuritychip,youhavetostartClientSecuritySolution,andfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

Tipsonusingthesecuritychip
•EnsurethatthesupervisorpasswordhasbeensetinThinkPadSetup.Otherwiseanyonecanchangethe
settingsforthesecuritychip.
•IfyouareusingClientSecuritySolution,handlethesecuritychipbydoingthefollowing:
–Donotclearthesecuritychip.Ifyoudo,thefunctionsassignedtothekeyswillbeerased.
–Donotdisablethesecuritychip.Ifyoudo,ClientSecuritySolutionwillnotwork.
•Ifthesecuritychipisremovedorreplaced,oranewonehasbeenadded,thecomputerwillnotstart.You
willhearfourcyclesoffourbeepseach,oryouwillseeerrormessage0176or0192.
•Ifthesecuritychipisinactiveordisabled,theClearSecurityChipoptionwillnotbedisplayed.
•Whenyouclearthesecuritychip,turnoffyourcomputerandthenturnitonagainafteryousetthe
securitychiptoActive.Otherwise,theClearSecurityChipoptionisnotdisplayed.
Noticeondeletingdatafromyourharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive
Someofthedatastoredontheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrivemightbesensitive.Handingyour
computerovertosomeoneelsewithoutdeletingtheinstalledsoftware,suchasoperatingsystemsand
applicationsoftware,mightevenviolatelicenseagreements.Besuretodeletedatastoredontheharddisk
driveorsolid-statedrivebeforeyoudisposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer.
Youcanusethefollowingmethodstodeletedatafromtheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive:
•MovethedatatotheRecycleBin,andthenemptytheRecycleBin.
•Deletethedata.
•Formatyourharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,usingthesoftwareforinitializingit.
•UsetherecoveryprogramprovidedbyLenovotobringtheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrivebackto
thefactorydefaultsettings.
Theseoperations,however,onlychangethelelocationofthedata;theydonotdeletethedataitself.In
otherwords,thedataretrievalprocessingisdisabledunderanoperatingsystemsuchasWindows.The
