becausethebatteryisdepleted.Checkthesystemstatusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo).

Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressFn.
–Ifthesystemstatusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)isoff,yourcomputerisinpower-offstate.
Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressthepowerbuttontoresumeoperation.
Ifthesystemstilldoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,yoursystemmightstoprespondingandyoumightnot
beabletoturnoffthecomputer.Inthiscase,youneedtoresetthecomputer.Ifyouhavenotsavedyour
data,itmightbelost.Toresetthecomputer,pressandholdthepowerbuttonfor4secondsormore.If
thesystemisstillnotreset,removetheacpoweradapter.

Solution:Checkwhetheranyoptionhasbeenselectedtodisableyourcomputerfromenteringsleep
mode.

Harddiskdriveproblems
•Problem:Theharddiskdrivemakesarattlingnoiseintermittently.

–Whenyoucarrytheharddiskdrive.
–Whenyoucarryyourcomputer.
Thisisanormalcharacteristicofaharddiskdriveandisnotadefect.
•Problem:Theharddiskdrivedoesnotwork.
Solution:OntheBootmenuofThinkPadSetup,ensurethattheharddiskdriveisontheBootpriority
orderlist.IfitisontheExcludedfrombootorderlist,itisdisabled.Selecttheentryforitonthelistand
presstheShift+1key.ThismovestheentrytotheBootpriorityorderlist.
•Problem:Aftersettingaharddiskpasswordontheharddiskdriveofthecomputer,youmovedthedrive
toanothercomputer.Nowyoucannotunlocktheharddiskpassword.
Solution:Yourcomputersupportsanenhancedpasswordalgorithm.Computersolderthanyoursmight
notsupportsuchasecurityfunction.
Asolid-statedriveproblem
Problem:WhenyoucompresslesorfoldersbyuseofthedatacompressionfunctioninWindows,andthen
decompressthem,theprocessofwritingtoorreadingfromthelesorfoldersisslow.
Solution:ApplythediskdefragmentationtoolinWindowsforfasteraccesstothedata.
Opticaldriveproblems
•Problem:Theopticaldrive,suchasaCD,DVD,orCD-RWdrive,doesnotwork.
