Expansion SCSI Cards

• These option cards come in the FXII-EXP expansion kit. Make sure they are at least Rev. B
for the FX II.
• The FXOPT-SCM-1 card is needed if expanding an FX II system beyond a 1 cabinet
configuration. This card resides on the FXINT-MAUXII (Main Cabinet Auxiliary board).
• The FXOPT-SCX-1 card is needed in the expansion cabinet and resides on the FXINT-
FSRV-1 (expansion cabinet services board).

Fiber Optics Card
• The Fiber Optics card provides an optical interconnection between the main and expansion
cabinets in an expanded FX II system, and is designed for use when the expansion cabinet
needs to be located more than six feet from the main cabinet. This may be needed if you
require the expansion cabinet on a different floor in the building.
• With the benefit of the fiber optic medium’s immunity to signal degradation or corruption, it
provides a good alternative to the SCSI-driven electrical link used for the same purpose.
• The fiber card connection between a main and expansion cabinet also allows a maximum
distance between the cabinets to be up to 1.2 miles. This is a fantastic improvement over the
standard 6- foot SCSI connection between cabinets.
• Fiber Optics support is system software keyed, and you must enable the software key before
you can turn on Fiber Optics service at an installation site.
• The Fiber Optics card is part of a field expansion kit that includes both a main and expansion
Fiber Optics card and an expansion services board. The Comdial ordering code numbers for
the Fiber Optics expansion kits are as detailed in the following table:
