Exercise 4: Building a New Database (Offline)
Pre-Setup Discussion
This exercise demonstrates another way you can make changes to the Comdial phone system’s
database. In this exercise your PC with VMMI is not physically connected to the system.
Instead, you make changes in VMMI, then later upload (or restore) those changes to the Comdial
phone system. This programming technique is referred to as building an offline database.
There are 3 basic steps involved to get started building an offline database. In the database, you
must specify:
• Boards
• Phone models
• Intercom numbering (not necessary if Master Clear Mode 1 or 2 is used.)
By programming these 3 pieces of information, you have a baseline database that allows you to
do subsequent programming. (For example, you cannot program button mapping until you have
added a phone model.)
