Detailed Cleaning Techniques
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS
Cleaning rod or pull-through, cotton flannel patches, small toothbrush, quality gun cleaning solution,
Cleaner/Lubricant/Preservative (CLP), a bronze wire bore brush and a bronze wire chamber brush.
WHEN TO CLEAN
Before Firing: Check to ensure that the barrel and chamber are clean and remove any CLP present in
the barrel.
After Firing: Clean your firearm as soon as possible: the job will be easier and there will be less
opportunity for corrosion to begin. Check your firearm again within a few days to ensure that no
further cleaning is necessary.
Wet Firearms: Anytime your firearm gets wet, clean and dry it as soon as possible.
BORE AND CHAMBER
The bore of the barrel has lands and grooves called rifling. Rifling imparts spin on the bullet as it travels
down the barrel and exits the muzzle. Always follow the bore from the chamber toward the muzzle when
cleaning the bore.
Wire brushes should be used to clean only when required.
