11. Again wipe external surfaces with oil moistened patch to remove any finger
prints. (Finger moisture, if left, could start corrosion process). (See NOTE on
cold weather lubrication).
12. Remove any gun cleaning solution and oil from the stock.
It is advisable to clean the magazine(s) whenever the pistol is cleaned. To do
so, remove the magazine follower and spring and clean all components, taking
care to remove carbon deposits from the lips of the magazine and the magazine
follower. Wipe components with lightly oiled cloth and reassemble.
The 10mm and 40 S&W magazines are disassembled from the bottom while
magazines for most other calibers are disassembled from the top.

The 10mm and 40 S&W magazines have a removable base.
To remove the base, push in the base lock which sticks out through a hole in
the base, and slide the base off towards the front of the magazine. Then
remove the base lock by sliding it towards the front of the magazine.
The spring and follower can now be removed through the bottom of the
magazine.
