Manual
Note: Officer's ACP, Compact and Delta Elite have two (2) recoil springs-most
other Colt pistols have only one.
Assemble the recoil spring/s and guide into the slide by pushing the open end
of the spring/s through the slide from the rear, (STEP 3). Position the arched
portion of the recoil spring guide over the outside surface of the barrel, (Step 4).
3. (C only) Flip barrel link back. Insert recoil spring bushing into slide. Insert
the recoil spring assembly into the closed end of the outer recoil spring and
slide the outer spring down the length of the recoil spring assembly. Insert the
whole assembly into the recoil spring bushing. Push forward and down against
the recoil spring and seat them into the recoil bushing until the cap of the recoil
spring assembly is located against the front of the barrel lug. Be careful not to
let them fly out of control; See Figure 13.
NOTE: Colt Defenders are different in some ways. (It is illustrated at Figure
19). For example a number of items are combined into a recoil spring assembly.
There is one spring captured on the guide rod. A removable outer spring slides
over the assembly. There is no barrel bushing and the magazine follower is
slightly different; the sights are not illustrated. Other diffrences can be seen in
the grip safety, safety lock, grip and three hole trigger.
