1 To use a counterpoise:
Lay out the counterpoise, forming a
cross.
Prop the transceiver against a suitable
support in the centre of the counterpoise.
Plug the wire from the counterpoise into
the earth terminal ( ) on the front panel.
1 Switch on the transceiver.
1 Select a channel then press PTT to tune the
antenna.
1 Ensure that the internal antenna tuner is
activated ( ATU/50 or ATU).
If the antenna fails to tune, you may need to
shorten the antenna wire. Make a loop in the
wire, then secure the loop flat against the
remaining wire.
Packing up the tactical long wire antenna
To pack up the long wire antenna:
1 Switch off the transceiver.
1 Unplug the earth lead or counterpoise from
the earth terminal, wind up, then stow.
1 Unplug and unclip the antenna wire from the
antenna adaptor.
1 Unscrew the antenna adaptor from the
antenna stud, then screw it onto the winding
spool.
1 Untie the halyard and lower the antenna.
1 Wind the antenna wire and halyard onto the
winding spool by rotating the winding spool
end-over-end along the antenna wire.
1 Secure with the velcro fastener, then stow.
