Hard disk drive bay view
Figure 6 shows the LEDs on the front panel of the hard disk drive.

1. The Activity LED lights to indicate that the hard disk drive is powered up.
2. The Failure LED lights to indicate a defective hard disk drive. This LED
also tells you when it is safe to remove the hard disk drive from the drive
bay.
When you insert your finger into the front plate, the Failure LED lights
indicating that it is safe to remove the drive. If the Failure LED was lit when
you accessed the drive bay, it should stay lit when you grasp the front plate
of the hard disk drive. If the LED does not light, or goes out, when your
finger is inserted in the front plate, do not remove the hard disk drive. Allow
a few seconds for the drive to complete its current task and then try again.
