FIBER CEMENT
What to Expect
This is a handmade product, and each piece has its own special character and therefore will
vary in color and/or texture. Small air bubbles may occur during the casting process. Fiber
cement is an organic material that is affected by exposure to light and daily use by getting
lighter or darker. This is considered normal and becomes part of the individual product’s
expression.
Although fiber cement is resistant to all types of weather, it requires some maintenance to look
nice over time. The pores, micro fissures and possible variations in color are inherent
characteristics of the material used and the fact that it is hand-crafted. This is what gives this
furniture its unique appearance and all its chairs. It is not possible to return or exchange this
article for these reasons.
Usage
To clean, use only a soft, very slightly damp cloth. Wipe up spills quickly to avoid staining.
NEVER USE ABRASIVE PADS, VINEGAR, BLEACH, ALCOHOL, HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS,
TURPENTINE OR MINERAL SPIRITS. Avoid accidentally hitting the tabletop’s edges, as this
can cause small chips. To prevent scratches, do not place or drag coarse objects across the
surface. Avoid contact with acidic materials such as citrus or olive oil, as they can damage the
sealant. Do not place extremely hot items directly onto the tabletop, as this can cause sealant
discoloration.
Care and Maintenance
When the product is exposed to wind and weather, small white spots may appear on the
surface. These are calcium flakes which can be removed with vinegar. After the vinegar
treatment, re-treat the surface with either quality Stone Sealer or furniture wax.
- When using Stone Sealer, you give the product an invisible impregnation preventing liquid
and food spills from penetrating the surface and leaving stains.
- When using furniture wax, the product gets slightly darker with a shinier expression. It is
easiest to apply the wax while there is still some sheen on the product. The more worn the
product is, the more easily moisture and stains will penetrate the surface.
Whichever treatment you choose, wind, weather and rain in particular will eventually wear down
the protective layer. Regular cleaning (wiping) also wears off the sealer. It is therefore
recommended to treat fiber cement 3-4 times per season.
