The Plugiator ASX uses a Program Change message to load a certain synth or a certain
preset. Therefore you can easily „record“ and „play back“ the commands to switch sounds of
the Plugiator ASX hardware. Use Program Change numbers 101-108 to load synths and
Program Changes from 1-100 to change presets of the selected plug-in.

VST Plug-Ins utilize your computer’s main processor to generate their sounds, and they rely
on a very specific software environment under Microsoft Windows. It would be very expensive
to put such an environment into a hardware synth expansion. In contrast, Plugiator ASX
utilizes a special DSP processor which was designed for audio processing. Such DSPs are very
powerful and affordable, but they have a different command set than your Intel/AMD computer
so that VST code will not run on DSPs and vice versa. However, today’s floating point DSPs
have significant advantages over host processors - they provide facilities which help maintaining
a fantastic sound quality.
