Configuring Your System for a
MIDI Control Surface
Windows
Connect and configure your MIDI interface ac-
cording to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Your MIDI ports will appear in the Pro Tools Pe-
ripherals dialog as source and destination
choices for MIDI Control Surface communica-
tion.
Macintosh OS X
Connect and configure your MIDI interface ac-
cording to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Before using a MIDI control surface with
Pro Tools, configure it as a device in the Apple
Audio MIDI Setup application (AMS).
Configuring AMS for Your MIDI Control
Surface
(Macintosh OS X Only)
The following are basic instructions for config-
uring your MIDI control surface in the Apple
Audio MIDI Setup application (AMS).
To configure your MIDI control surface in AMS:

Launch the Apple Audio MIDI Setup (Applica-
tions/Utilities/).

In Pro Tools, select Setups > Edit MIDI Studio
Setup.

Select the MIDI Devices tab.

Double-click on your MIDI control surface’s
icon.

If there is no icon for your MIDI control surface,
choose MIDI Devices > Add New External De-
vice; then, do the following:
Double-click the New External Device icon.
Select or type the Manufacturer for your
MIDI control surface.
Select or type the Model for your MIDI con-
trol surface.
•Type the Device Name for your MIDI con-
trol surface.

Click More Properties.

Click the Basic tab.
Enable Receive and Transmit MIDI Channels
