1.4 Ether net Card Setup
Before configuring the Ethernet card on a PC, contact your network administrator to identify
whataddresstheCNIneedstobesetto.Thiswilldeterminewhataddresseswillbeassignedto
theEthernetcardinthePC.
This example assumes that the IP Address you want to assign to the CNI is
10.120.120.121withaSubnetMaskof255.255.0.0.
TheeasiestwaytoprogramtheCNIisto:
make
theSubnetMaskofthePCthesameastheSubnetMaskthatyouwanttoprogram
theCNIto.Inthiscaseiswillbe255.255.0.0.
make the IP Address of the Ethernet card almost identical to the IP Address that you
wanttoassign
totheCNI.Inthiscaseitwillbe10.120.120.121.
To configure the PC to IP Address 10.120.120.121 on Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 follow the steps
below:
1) Rightclickon‘MyNetworkPlaces’andselect‘Properties’
2) Rightclickon‘LocalAreaNetwork’andselect‘Properties’
3) Scroll through the ‘Local Area Connection Properties’ and find ‘Internet Prot
ocol
TCP/IP.’
4) Select‘InternetProtocolTCP/IP’andpressthe‘Properties’button.
5) Select the ‘Use the following IP Address’ and enter the selected IP Address and Subnet
MaskasshowninFigure6,thenpress‘OK.’
