American Academy of Pediatrics
(AAP) Recommendation
The AAP advises parents to keep their
toddlers in Rear-Facing car seats until age 2,
or until they reach the maximum height and
weight for their seat.
When Using This Car
Seat in Rear-Facing Mode
All infants less than one year old or 20 lb
(9 kg) MUST be Rear-Facing.
Child’s weight is between 14 and 50 lb
(6.4 and 22.7 kg), AND
Child’s height is between 25 and 43 in.
(64 and 110 cm), AND
Child is able to sit upright alone, AND
Discontinue LATCH use when child’s weight
exceeds 25 lb (11.4 kg).
The top of the child’s head must be at
least 1" (2.5 cm) below the top of the car
seat’s Headrest, as shown in Figure 1. If
the top of the child’s head is less than 1"
(2.5 cm) below the top of the Headrest
in the highest adjustment position, your
child is too large for using this car seat
Rear-Facing and must be transitioned to
Forward-Facing use with this car seat.
The Shoulder Harness Straps must be
through Shoulder Harness Slots at or
below and closest to the child’s shoulders,
as shown in Figure 2.
