Step 9
Tighten vehicle seat belt to secure the
car seat.
• Press down in center of car seat to
depress the vehicle cushion and pull free
end lap belt only or shoulder portion of
lap/shoulder belt to tighten as shown in
Figure 71 (lap belt only) or Figure 71a
(lap/shoulder belt).
• If using a lap/shoulder belt: while
holding the vehicle belt tight, lock
Forward-Facing Belt Lock-off as shown
in Figure 72.
NOTE: Use only one Shoulder Belt Lock-Off
at a time. Never use both in the Forward-
Facing Mode.
Step 10
Check that the entire belt is laying flat,
placed correctly in the Belt Path as shown
in Figure 73 (lap belt only) and Figure 73a
(lap/shoulder belt) and NOT between the
harness and seat.

Attach Tether Hook to vehicle top tether
anchor as shown in Figure 74 or Figure 74a
and pull firmly on free end of strap until Top
Tether is snug.
NEVER secure this car seat when installing
with a lap belt without using the Top Tether.
Refer to vehicle owner’s manual for
recommended Top Tether routing and
identification of top tether anchor point.
Step 12
Check for secure installation. Gripping car
seat at top of armrests, pull car seat front
to back and left to right to check for secure
installation as shown in Figure 75. Vehicle
belts and Top Tether must stay tight and child
restraint should not move more than 1" (2.5
cm) in any direction.
• If vehicle belt does not stay tight or car
seat cannot be securely installed, try
a different vehicle seating location or
install using LATCH, see “Installing/
Removing Car Seat Forward-Facing
Using LATCH” on page 44.
