Step 6
Position the seat so that the Rear-Facing Level
Reference Line appropriate for the child’s
weight is parallel with the ground as shown
in Figure 55.
If using with an infant under 22 lb (10
kg), position the seat with the more
reclined Reference Line (top line) parallel
to the ground
If using with an older child who is over
22 lb (10 kg), position the seat with the
more upright Reference Line (bottom
line) parallel to the ground

If installing with a lap/shoulder belt, open
one (1) Rear-Facing Belt Lock-off as shown
in Figure 56. You may use whichever Lock-off
provides the most secure installation.
NOTE: If your vehicle’s belt system is
equipped with an ELR/ALR switchable
retractor (SLR), or if you are installing with
a lap belt, you may skip Step 7, and install
your car seat WITHOUT using a Rear-Facing
Belt Lock-off. Refer to the Child Restraint
section of your vehicle manual to understand
what type of belt system your vehicle is
equipped with.

Route vehicle belt through the Rear-Facing
Belt Path and under all four Belt Tabs, shown
in Figure 57a, and buckle vehicle belt, as
shown in Figure 57.
Check that Crotch Strap is not under the
vehicle belt as shown in Figure 57b.
Step 9
Choose the option that matches the type of
installation you are doing:
Option 1 — Installing with lap/shoulder
belt using a Rear-Facing Lock-off:
Tighten vehicle belt to secure the car seat
Press down in center of car seat to
depress the vehicle cushion and pull the
shoulder portion of lap/shoulder belt to
tighten as shown in Figure 58.
While holding the vehicle belt tight,
close Rear-Facing Belt Lock-off as shown
in Figure 59.
IMPORTANT: If Lock-off will not close easily,
it may be necessary to loosen the belt slightly
in order to properly position the belt under
the Belt Tabs and close the Lock-off.
