Troubleshooting
1. The CEL and PCS lights on the front of the amplier unit are yellow
or red.
If the light labeled CEL (for 800 MHz band) or the PCS (1900 MGHz
band) turns YELLOW it means that the automatic level control (ALC) is
in action to limit the emitted power. There is no cause for concern and
the operation can coninue.
If either of two lights turn RED, the input power is exceeding the safe
level or the unit is oscillating. The red lights indicates that oscillation is
occurring and the repeater’s auto-shutdown feature has been triggered.
Oscillation occurs when the signals being broadcast by the repeater are
recaptured by the directional antenna and re-amplied. This “feedback
causes oscillation and triggers the red alarm light. The red alarm lights
can also be triggered by an unusually strong incoming signal.
If either the CEL or PCS lights turn red, try the following suggestions
(you will need to reset the repeater each time by disconnecting and
reconnecting the AC adapter):
Point the outdoor antenna away from the repeater unit at all
times.
Try to keep the outdoor antenna facing open space. If the
directional antenna is directly facing a wall, some of the
transmitted signal will reect back, thereby increasing the
chances of oscillation.
Try to position the outdoor antenna so that it is as separate
as possible from the repeater unit in order to improve isolation.
This can be aided by positioning the repeater system so that
walls and doors lie between the outdoor antenna and the Clear
Voice amplier unit.
Make sure that the connections of the 30-foot cable to the
directional antenna and amplier unit are hand-tight.
Make sure that both the directional antenna and the amplier
units are not near any large metal objects, high-voltage lines, or
a concentration of electrical equipment.
Try placing the directional antenna at an elevated position.
