ZSync Technology
Zero Sync (ZSync) technology has been developed to enable Tempests Seamless Roaming feature as well as greatly
enhance the performance of non-roaming mul -BaseSta on Tempest installa ons. The ZSync technology provides a more
sophis cated form of BaseSta on synchroniza on over the older Accu-Sync technology. To u lize ZSync technology either
a Zero Sync Dongle or a Parallel Zero Sync Generator is necessary to act as the source of the ZSync signal. These devices are
sold separately. All Tempest BaseSta ons con nue to support and provide Accu-Sync synchroniza on signals. It is, however,
strongly recommended that ZSync technology be used whenever there is a mul ple BaseSta on con gura on.
With tradi onal Accu-Sync technology, BaseSta on transmit/receive cycles are coordinated so that all of the BaseSta ons
are transmi ng at the same me. This prevents one transmi er from desensing nearby receivers. Tradi onal Accu-Sync
does not, however, coordinate anything in the frequency domain. ZSync technology combats turn-on to turn-on varia on
by providing a zero sync reference that coordinates the hopping pa erns of all connected BaseSta ons. ZSync technology
ensures that, in addi on to transmit/receive ming, there is a xed rela onship between all of the BaseSta on’s radio
frequencies every  me the system is powered up irrespec ve of random  me varia on in power-up sequences. Assuming
that the Network Numbers for the BaseSta ons have been set properly, there will be virtually no unit to unit interference
even with up to 11 BaseSta ons in a system when using ZSync. This is true for roaming as well as non-roaming applica ons.
In addi on, in roaming con gura ons, ZSync allows the BeltSta ons to know exactly what frequency a given BaseSta on is
opera ng on at any given  me. This allows for very fast detec on and switching from one BaseSta on to another. The use
of ZSync technology is required for all roaming applica ons.
Pre-Requisites
All Tempest Wireless equipment (roaming or non-roaming) must have Radio  rmware version 1.18 or higher to fully
u lize ZSync. Tempest equipment with radio versions below 1.18 will s ll u lize the Accu-Sync por on of the ZSync
signal, but will not gain the added bene ts.
All Tempest BaseSta ons to be used in a roaming applica on must have the same ZSync reference. For more
informa on on roaming applica ons see the sec on on Seamless Roaming in this manual.
Zero Sync Hop Dongle
The Zero Sync Hop Dongle (ZSync dongle”) provides a precise, zero reference synchroniza on signal to each connected
Tempest 2.4GHz BaseSta on. This signal aligns the hopping pa erns and transmit/receive mes of all connected
BaseSta ons to produce the best possible mul -base, collocated RF performance.
The ZSync dongle connects to the BaseSync IN port of the rst collocated BaseSta on. Each addi onal BaseSta on is then
daisy-chained via the BaseSync ports of each sequen al BaseSta on. If any BaseSta on loses power in this con gura on,
all remaining sequen al BaseSta ons will not receive the ZSync signal. Therefore, the ZSync dongle is best u lized in
installa ons where all BaseSta ons are in use and/or powered on at all  mes.
Allow up to one minute for all of the BaseSta ons to see the zero sync reference in the
ZSync signal and thus become “zero synced” with all of the other BaseSta ons. Prior to this
me the BaseSta ons are likely not fully coordinated.
